Chemical peel in Rotterdam

A chemical peel is a treatment in which an acid loosens the bond between the outermost skin cells, so that this layer is replaced faster. At Diba Clinics in Rotterdam we work with four brands in three strengths. A peel costs from € 140 and takes 60 minutes; depending on the strength you are dry and flaky for two to five days afterwards.

How it works

What a peel
does to your skin

A peel speeds up something your skin already does on its own: replacing the top layer. How far that goes depends on the agent.

Your skin replaces its top layer constantly, but not always at the same speed. If the old cells stay too long, your skin feels rough, looks dull, pores get blocked and surface discolouration stays longer than it needs to.

A peel loosens the bond between those outer cells, so that the layer is replaced faster. What the agent does depends on three things together: which acid is in it, how concentrated it is and how acidic the mixture is as a whole. Fruit acids stay in the horny layer, salicylic acid dissolves in sebum and so reaches into the pore, and stronger mixtures go into the epidermis.

On the site and in the calendar this is called a medical peel. Chemical peel is the same treatment, under the name most people search for.

It is worked out separately per concern: a peel for acne, for pigment spots and for skin rejuvenation. What the sun does around a peel is on sun and your skin, and what is possible during pregnancy on pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The agents

Four brands
in three strengths

A peel is not a device but a liquid. Which one suits you depends on your skin at that moment and on the season.

We work with peels from Skin Tech Pharma, Dermaceutic, ADO and Mesoestetic, in three levels. The lightest work on the top layer and usually do not make you peel visibly. The strongest, such as Dermaceutic's TCA peel at 12 to 20 per cent, go deeper and ask for preparation and recovery time.

The working time is measured against your skin. Leaving it on longer gives no better result but more damage, which is why the therapist stays with you as long as the peel is on your skin.

For skin with inflamed acne an acid is sometimes too much. For that there is the herbal peel from ADO: finely ground herbs without acid, which are anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Afterwards the skin is red and peeling for three to five days.

Is this your first visit

Then you book a treatment on advice. We reserve at most two hours for that: the intake, and then at least an hour to treat. If treating is safe at that moment and you want it, we do the first peel in the same appointment.

What the intake costs

If you are treated in the same appointment, the intake fee is waived and you pay only for the treatment. If the treatment does not go ahead, the intake costs € 50. A separate intake without treatment lasts at most 30 minutes and always costs € 50.

Have you been here before

Then you book the peel directly in the calendar. Count on 60 minutes. If anything has changed since your last visit in your skin, your medication or your expectation, say so when you arrive.

What helps and what we advise against

A peel works on the upper layers. For scars that sit deeper and for stubborn pigment there is a heavier route.

This works

  • Surface discolouration, and pigment left behind after a spot
  • Rough skin and a dull texture
  • Blocked pores, because the top layer renews faster
  • Inflamed acne, with the herbal peel or a peel tuned to it

We advise against this

  • Scars that sit deeper than the epidermis. For those you choose microneedling
  • Stubborn pigment or melasma. There Cosmelan and Dermamelan are the heavier programmes
  • Peeling just before a lot of sun, or with pigment in the summer months
  • During pregnancy or while you are breastfeeding

For better skin texture there are several routes. This is what they do, what you notice afterwards and what they cost.

Who does the treatment

A peel is done here by a skin therapist. They choose the strength, measure the working time against your skin and, in a series, only step up once your skin can take it.

About Chemical peel in Rotterdam

Frequently asked questions

What does a chemical peel cost in Rotterdam?

At Diba Clinics a Mesoestetic peel costs € 140 and a TCA peel from Dermaceutic € 180. A herbal peel costs € 150 for the face. There are also courses of three, some with products for home use. If it is your first visit, your appointment starts with a € 50 intake, which is waived if we treat in the same appointment.

What is the difference between a chemical and a medical peel?

There is no difference; they are two names for the same treatment. We call it a medical peel, because these are agents chosen per skin and measured against your skin. Chemical peel is the name most people search for.

Will I peel after a peel?

With a light peel usually not, with a stronger one yes. With the stronger versions count on two to five days dry and flaky. You hear that beforehand, because it decides when best to schedule the treatment.

Can I have a peel in summer?

With pigment, preferably not, and with the stronger peels not either. Sun on freshly peeled skin is exactly the combination that costs you the result. A light peel for texture is sometimes possible, with strict sun protection.

How many peels do I need?

Usually a series of four to six, with two to four weeks in between. How many that becomes for you depends on your skin and on how it reacts; we measure that along the way.

Does a chemical peel help against acne?

Yes, peels are one of the most important tools for acne. With inflamed acne we work with chemical peels and with the herbal peel, which is antibacterial as well. We only tackle scars once the skin is calm.

Does a peel help against pigmentation?

With surface discolouration yes, such as the marks left after a spot. If the pigment sits deeper or it is melasma, a programme like Cosmelan or Dermamelan is the fitter answer. Which of the two it is, we establish with a measurement.

Is a peel possible on darker skin?

Yes, and it asks for a different approach. With skin types IV to VI the chance of new pigment spots from the treatment is higher, so we choose the strength more carefully and build up more slowly. We discuss that beforehand.

Not sure

Not sure which peel you need

You do not have to know that before you come. We measure your skin, look at what is going on and choose the strength that fits. If a peel is not the right answer, you hear so.

If you know what you are after but are unsure about the timing or the combination with something else, ask via WhatsApp. There is a therapist on the other end and not a form.
