FRAC3
- How deep
- Deep dermis
- Recovery
- One to a few days red, sometimes with a fine grainy texture that flakes off.
- How often
- Usually a series of three to four, with four to six weeks in between.
A fractional laser that goes deeper, for texture, pores and irregularities.
This step is one of the four of Fotona 4D. What the whole treatment costs and how it goes is on Fotona 4D in Rotterdam.
Where it lands
FRAC3 works fractionally: the energy does not go across the skin as a flat surface but in islands, so that intact tissue stays standing in between that helps the healing get going. The pulses find their own way to the places where more pigment or more blood sits, so the irregularities get more energy than the calm skin around them. That is how it reaches texture, pores, redness and uneven colour.

What happens
Acts on
Water
Every skin cell is largely water. Aim at that and you hit tissue and not colour.
- Stratum corneumThe outer layer of dead cells. What happens here shows quickly and heals quickly.Passes through here
- EpidermisWhere your pigment sits and where new skin cells come from.It works here
- Upper dermisThis is where the connective tissue starts. What you reach here heals by building. It works here
- Deep dermisHair roots, vessels and the firmness of your skin. Working this deep needs a reason. It works here
What happens,
in order.
Every treatment starts with cleansing, and that is done by hand. Make-up and sebum come off and the therapist checks that everything is gone, because a device or an active ingredient that works on a layer never reaches your skin.
Cooling and protecting
You are given protective goggles and the skin is cooled before the first pulse comes.
In islands
The laser passes in strips across the area. Every pulse hits small islands and leaves the skin between them intact.
Red afterwards
The skin is red for one to a few days and feels warm. Sun protection belongs with the weeks after.
What you notice in the chair
Every pulse feels like a short, sharp tap, as though an elastic band snapped against your skin. On the cheek that is manageable; above the lip and along the nose you notice it more clearly.
Afterwards you are red and warm. In the days that follow the skin can feel finely grainy and flake lightly; that is the old top layer coming away.

Frequently asked questions
What does fractional mean?
That the energy goes into the skin in islands rather than as a flat surface. The tissue that stays intact in between helps the healing get going and that saves recovery time.
How many sessions do I need?
Usually three to four, with four to six weeks in between. How many it is for you depends on your skin and on what is going on.
What does it cost?
That depends on the area and the number of sessions, and we establish that at the intake.
How much recovery time do I need?
One to a few days red, sometimes with a fine grainy texture that flakes off.
How often do I need to come?
Usually a series of three to four, with four to six weeks in between.
Start with a skin analysis
