Dead skin cells and fine hairs removed with a blade. Works without acids, so it suits sensitive skin too.
What dermaplaning costs with us, why the hair does not come back thicker and how a first appointment goes is on Dermaplaning in Rotterdam.
Where it lands
Dead skin cells and fine hairs are removed with a surgical blade, at an angle of 45 degrees. No acids are involved, which means it is also possible on sensitive, dry or allergic skin and during pregnancy. It is painless and the result is visible straight away.

What happens
Acts on
The stratum corneum
The treatment works on the outer layer of dead skin cells; the deeper layers are not treated in the same way.
- Stratum corneumThe outer layer of dead cells. What happens here shows quickly and heals quickly. It works here
- EpidermisWhere your pigment sits and where new skin cells come from.Does not reach here
- Upper dermisThis is where the connective tissue starts. What you reach here heals by building.Does not reach here
- Deep dermisHair roots, vessels and the firmness of your skin. Working this deep needs a reason.Does not reach here
Every treatment starts with cleansing, and that is done by hand. Make-up and sebum come off and the therapist checks that everything is gone, because a device or an active ingredient that works on a layer never reaches your skin.
What you notice in the chair
Your skin is pulled taut and the blade passes over it at a fixed angle, in short strokes. The sound is the oddest part: a soft scraping you feel in your jaw more than on your skin. It does not hurt.
Just afterwards your face is strikingly smooth and takes up cream more easily. The fine hairs come back as they were, so anyone who likes it comes back roughly monthly.
What this treatment is meant for
On the left where this treatment works well, on the right when another treatment does more for you.
- Gives smooth, even skin straight away
- Possible on skin that does not tolerate chemical exfoliation
- Can be combined with almost any other treatment
- Works on the outer layer; microneedling goes deeper
- For pigment or scars deeper in the skin you choose laser
- The fine hairs grow back; permanently gone is laser hair removal
